Ralph the giant rabbit following in his hefty mother's footsteps

Ralph the giant rabbit is shaping up to follow in the footsteps of his mother in an attempt to become known as the world's largest bunny.

His record-breaking mother Amy – a Continental Giant – weighed three stone and measured 4ft long when she died in May last year.

Now one-year-old Ralph's owner, Pauline Grant, hopes he will enter the record books as he is believed to be longer and heavier, weighing more than three stone.

Mrs Grant said he has daily meals of Weetabix, water biscuits, apples, carrots, cabbages, toast, sweetcorn and huge bowls of rabbit food.

Mrs Grant, 73, who runs the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust in Uckfield, East Sussex, said yesterday: "Last June he was one and a half stone, but since then he has more than doubled in size."

A spokesman for Guinness World Records was unaware of an attempt to put Ralph forward for any record, but welcomed any approach by his owner.
