Rare church treasures found

Father Chris Posluszny of St Marie’s Catholic Cathedral, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, with seven rare alabaster carvings lost since the 1970s and discovered in dust-covered boxes in a sacristy cupboard as clergy were clearing up.

Most of the carvings date from the 15th century and depict scenes from the life of Christ, including his arrest. Father Posluszny, dean of the cathedral, said they would be restored and displayed to the public.
