Rare instrument to take centre stage
Visitors to the Hepworth Wakefield will have the chance to experience one of just four instruments in the world at the weekend.
The Octobass, played here by Maxwell Sterling, which creates sounds including some inaudible to the human ear, will form part of artist Linder Sterling’s new performance work, The Ultimate Form, which will have its UK premiere at the gallery tomorrow at 2pm.
A performance in the gallery gardens includes a work by Northern Ballet’s award-winning choreographer Kenneth Tindall, with a musical score by Cinematic Orchestra guitarist and composer Stuart McCallum and costumes by Richard Nicoll. It is hoped the piece will fuse dance, music, fashion, art, sculpture and landscape into a ‘living collage’, elements derived from the artist’s research into the life and work of Barbara Hepworth.
