Rare Shakespeare folio goes on display

The head of heritage collections at Durham University, Sheila Hingley, holds a copy of the rare 1623 Shakespeare first folio, with the original in the display case, that is going on show at the university's Wolfson Gallery for the first time in 12 years.

The 17th century folio will form the centrepiece of a new exhibition which will open to the public at the University's Palace Green Library, in Durham, on Saturday.

Raymond Scott was cleared of stealing the 3m folio in July, but was found guilty of handling it and jailed for five years.

The exhibition, which will include a number of other university treasures and manuscripts, is the inaugural exhibition in the new Wolfson Gallery, which has undergone a 2.3m refurbishment, funded in part by a 500,000 donation from the Wolfson Foundation.
