Rashid proves a star turn for the Academy

FELIX Odell, Doncaster Town’s all-rounder, damaged Harrogate’s title prospects in a seven-wicket victory for the Town Fields men.

Odell took five wickets with his leg-spin as Harrogate were restricted to 201-8. Then he opened the innings and made 63, building a third-wicket partnership of 109 with Graeme Attenborough, who hit an undefeated 84, including seven fours and two sixes.

Harrogate dropped into third place and trail leaders York by 11 points. Yorkshire Academy leapfrogged Harrogate with a 122 runs win against Cleethorpes at Weetwood and lie three points behind York. Yorkshire’s Adil Rashid made a half-century and spun to 6-21 in 11 overs, including five maidens. Ryan Gibson top-scored for the winners with 76.

There were seven half-centuries at Abbeydale Park where York defeated Sheffield Collegiate by 20 runs. Alex Collins, Nick Kay, Ryan McKendry and Travis Ilka shone for York, and Billy Root, Daniel Walton and Sam Webber were Collegiate’s half-century makers. Spinner Dan Woods took five wickets for York.

Darren Harland struck an undefeated century for Scarborough, who lost by four wickets at Barnsley, who had opener Matthew Wilson on form with 90, including 13 boundaries.

Matt Morland’s 80 was the highlight of Appleby Frodingham’s home win over Driffield. Ollie Ezard took five wickets as Appleby Frodingham were dismissed for 229. Driffield then fell 53 runs short. Duncan Heath played his part in the win with 40 and 3-43 from 17.3 overs.

Sheffield United were bowled out for 166 in 53.2 overs, Bilal Anjam making a half-century. Castleford took 46.4 overs to record their first outright win of the season by six wickets.
