Virgin Racing drivers, from left, Lucas di Grassi, Timo Glock and Luiz Razia check out the car which Yorkshire's first Formula 1 team unveiled yesterday to take on the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes.

The team, based at Dinnington, near Rotherham, has adopted the revolutionary technique of designing the car digitally, as opposed to the conventional method of scale models and wind tunnels. The VR-01 car was unveiled on the team's website. Sir Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin group, said: "What a car!"
