Reality star in town for bake off

A FORMER star of the Great British Bake Off star kept a sneaky eye on the custard as sweet toothed Sheffield students whipped up the lightest sponges in town.

Howard Middleton, 51, a council worker from Sheffield - famous for baking a hemp loaf and suffered the trauma of ‘custardgate’ - was in the city to judge students’ baking skills at the University of Sheffield.

Mr Middleton thanked the many fans who turned up and said: “The cakes were absolutely amazing and a fantastically high standard.”

The Big Baking Competition was part of the Students’ Union’s Raising and Giving Week, which will also include a tea party, a fire walk and an abseil down the Arts Tower.

It was announced this week that The Great British Bake Off will be moved to BBC1 for its next series.
