Recruits sought to help run historic Treasurer's House

National Trust officials are hoping to sign up new recruits to work at Treasurer's House, which lies in the shadow of York Minster.

The trust is holding recruitment events tomorrow and on Wednesday next week at Treasurer's House to outline what the job entails for both paid and unpaid workers.

Many of the current volunteers have been at the house for between five and 20 years, while paid work includes jobs in catering, guiding, sales, visitor services, weddings and events.

The National Trust has stressed that volunteers do not need to have a degree in history or knowledge of antiques to work at the property.

Treasurer's House dates from the 15th century and is renowned for its interiors, which chart the changing designs over the last 400 years.

The house, which is built over a road dating from the Roman era, was restored between 1897 and 1930 by a wealthy industrialist, Frank Green. It has also found fame for the ghosts of a Roman legion who reputedly march through the cellars.
