Recycling scheme given green light

HARD-to-reach residents who campaigned for new recycling facilities after being left out of normal collection routes are celebrating the introduction of a new service.

Following yesterday's announcement of a new permanent mobile recycling facility in Knaresborough, Harrogate Borough Council has revealed it plans to introduce the service across the district.

Mobile recycling was introduced for a three-month trial period in Knaresborough last year for residents on narrow streets who missed normal collections.

And the fortnightly service, where people carry their rubbish to a customised recycling truck parked in the town centre, proved a success with huge amounts of waste being collected.

The Council said it is now looking to introduce the service in Ripon. The mobile recycling facility in Knaresborough will become permanent from March 31.
