Red-letter day for hero postman

A postman who rescued a stroke victim he found lying unconscious on her kitchen floor has won the Yorkshire section of the Royal Mail's first class people awards for 2010.

Craig Francis, who works at Barnsley delivery office, saw the elderly woman as he delivered mail to her home in Dodworth in September last year. As the door was unlocked, he went in and gave first aid while waiting for an ambulance.

He wins 500 from the regional contest and and goes on to a national ceremony on May 24. A Royal Mail spokeswoman said the awards recognise and reward the organisation's otherwise unsung heroes.
