Redcar rape incident 'not as first reported'

A reported rape in which a mother and her toddler were apparently abducted by two men is 'not as first reported', police say.

Cleveland Police officers have released an update after investigating the incident on Redcar seafront last Friday.

They are no longer looking for two men whom the victim said forced her and her child into a vehicle before an ordeal lasting several hours.

The allegation is now regarding a rape involving people who may have been known to each other.

Police are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the woman and toddler between the area of Roseberry Road and Larkswood Road in Redcar between 4pm and 6pm, oranyone with private CCTV footage covering the area at that time, and they are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
