Refurbished park gets new facilities

A REFURBISHED park, play area and community garden in Hull, will be opened tomorrow.

The Pullman Street facilities include grinding blocks for skateboarding, slides, swings, picnic tables and benches, improved footpaths and paved areas, new trees and shrubs and a climbing rock.

The project has been completed as part of a multi-million-pound investment in the Newington and St Andrew's wards by housing regeneration agency Gateway.

More than 2,000 new homes are being built and improvements made to the exteriors of a further 2,900 properties in the area, while 1,800 densely packed terraced houses are being demolished.

Resident Natalie Hollows said: "I am really looking forward to the park being opened and so are the kids.

"It means that they have somewhere to play that is just round the corner."

Gateway director Pauline Davis said: "This scheme has allowed the local youngsters to really get involved in the regeneration of their area and has generated a sense of pride."
