Some soldiers from 3 YORKS recently returned from serving in Afghanistan and are looking forward to showing their new colours to the community.

Traditionally troops have rallied to the colours on the battlefield.

Nowadays the colours are highly prized for their history and they symbolise the spirit, courage and dedication of the regiment – all on an ornate and beautifully needleworked flag.

Major battles in which the battalions have been involved are emblazoned on both the Queen's and the Regimental Colours.

The Regimental Secretary of The Yorkshire Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtrd) David O'Kelly said: "Soldiers have been looking forward to marching through their Dales heartland."
