Reginald Perrin writer joins festival

COMEDY writer David Nobbs is to join the line-up for this year's Scarborough Literature Festival.

The former journalist created a series of books and television programmes about Reginald Perrin, the hapless senior sales executive of Sunshine Desserts, who became a household name and topped TV ratings in the 1970s. Mr Nobbs now lives in North Yorkshire and is still writing.

He will appear in the Library Concert Hall in Scarborough on Thursday, April 15, the opening day of the Festival, which runs until April 18.

Another addition to the line-up is Jacqueline Yallop, whose first work of fiction was the critically-acclaimed Kissing Alice.

She will appear at the Festival on April 16 to talk about her new non-fiction title, Magpies, Squirrels and Thieves, a popular history of eccentric Victorian collectors.

Writers already booked to appear at the Festival include Philippa Gregory, Robert Goddard, Kathy Lette and Adele Parks.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Adult and Community Services, said: "The line up for this year's festival promises a feast of great things for book-lovers. The staff of Scarborough Library have pulled out all the stops."

Tickets go on sale in February.
