Region braced for a weather battering

Yorkshire is braced for a fresh deluge this weekend as homeowners and businesses count the cost of damage caused by the flash flooding which hit the county earlier this week.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the region, which will continue to be battered by torrential, thundery downpours and blustery winds today.

Forecasters are warning there is a risk of localised flooding, and an Environment Agency flood alert remains in force around the River Foulness, Market Weighton Canal and their tributaries.

The wet and windy weather is also expected to affect parts of Wales and south-west England until Saturday.

Showery rain is expected to continue into Sunday in Yorkshire, brightening up later in the day and into next week, but still with a chance of daytime showers.

The unseasonable conditions are being caused by an area of low pressure over Ireland, sending gusts of up to 50mph across the UK.
