Regional rankings: Kirklees top of Yorkshire class for A-levels

KIRKLEES schools and colleges have secured the best A-level results in the region, according to the new tables.

The district's sixth-form students had an average point score worth more than three A grades, placing them top in Yorkshire and sixth in England.

It was followed by North Yorkshire, which was ranked 10th nationally; York, which finished 22nd; and North Lincolnshire, which had the 28th best A-level results in the country.

Heckmondwike Grammar and Greenhead College sixth form in Huddersfield were Kirklees best A-level providers and both featured in a national league table showing students with the highest pass rates.

A Kirklees Council spokesman said: "Young people here are very well served by the colleges and sixth forms in the local area, and this is clearly shown by these excellent results.

North East Lincolnshire students had the lowest A-level grades in the region and the sixth worst in the country overall while Barnsley had the second lowest marks in the Yorkshire area.
