Remains found in river in hunt for vice girls

REMAINS that could be parts of a human body have been found in a West Yorkshire river just a few miles away from two missing prostitutes were last seen.

Officers last night stressed it was too early for the remains to have been identified or if the discovery was connected to the missing Bradford women, whose disappearances have not yet been linked.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said they were alerted by a call from a member of the public just before before 2pm yesterday.

Officers were still at the scene, in the River Aire off Dockfield Road in Shipley, a few hours later.

"We haven't yet been able to identify the remains and enquiries are continuing," the spokesman added.

However, a 40-year-old man remained in custody yesterday after being arrested on Monday in connection with the disappearance of Suzanne Blamires.

The 36-year-old prostitute, from Bradford, was reported missing to police on Saturday.

Police yesterday issued more details about the clothing another Bradford prostitute, Shelley Armitage, was seen wearing before her disappearance four weeks ago.

Miss Armitage, 31, was reportedly in a long grey cardigan, white vest top, dark jeans and white sandals and was carrying a bag, when last seen shortly after 10pm on April 26 in Sunbridge Road, Bradford.

Detective Superintendent Sukhbir Singh, of West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major enquiry team, said: "It is now more than a month since Shelley was last seen and we have been continuing extensive enquiries to find her.

"We are examining the results of an information seek in Bradford last night and remain very concerned about Shelley."
