Repairs to ‘disruptive’ gas supplies

Northern Gas Networks is investing £840,000 in a scheme which has seen nearly a mile-and-a-half of the town’s gas mains replaced.

The project will tackle the disruptive gas escapes that have affected the area. Engineers are set to replace the pipes around Seamer Road’s junction with Seamer Street and St James Church.

The company have already replaced a 250m section earlier in the year in the first stage of the five-month programme.

This section of work is expected to last until December 1 when work will cease on Seamer Road until after the Christmas holidays.

Northern Gas Networks’ Gary Farnhill said: “This final phase of work will ensure that there is a modern, robust gas network in place along the whole length of Seamer Road. This will signal an end to the series of disruptive emergency repairs which have inconvenienced local people in the past.”

Diversions will be in place while the work is carried out.
