Repairs for road damaged by freeze

URGENT repair work will begin on Monday on a six-kilometre stretch of the B1246 in the East Riding, following widespread damage caused by the winter weather.

East Riding Council is repairing the road from the 30mph sign west of North Dalton to the village sign on the approach to Warter.

The work, which is expected to last four weeks, will consist of an asphalt overlay to localised sections, structural patch repairs and reinstatement of road markings.

A surface dressing treatment will be carried out later this year to complete the work.

The repairs will cost about 300,000, a fraction of the estimated 8m to 9m total cost of the damage to the East Riding road network last winter.

The Government has allocated about 1.1m to the East Riding from a national pot of 100m established to assist local authorities in repairs to roads damaged by the severe weather.

The road will be closed to through traffic while the work is carried out, with diversions signed along the A164, A1079 and B1246.

Access will be maintained for emergency services, residents, deliveries, refuse collections and postal services.
