Rescue for boy
buried by sand

A TEENAGE boy had to be airlifted to hospital after becoming buried under sand on a beach.

Northumbria Police were alerted to the emergency at Bamburgh on the Northumberland coast on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were sent to the scene, along with a Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter, members of the HM Coastguard and North East Ambulance Service.

After ensuring the teenager’s head was free so he could breathe, the emergency services managed to fully free him by 4pm. The boy, believed to be 14, was then taken to hospital in Newcastle. He was said to be fit and well by police.
