Scarborough Coastguard Rescue Team, a Coastguard Helicopter, Scarborough RNLI Lifeboat and Scarborough Police responded, after the 10 year boy had last been seen to go under the water in the South Bay.
HM Coastguard, the RNLI and Police began to search the area where the boy was last seen.
Humber Coastguard produced search plans to systematic search the water.
At the start of the search the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat spotted the child and pulled him from the water.
The boy had been in the water for nearly an hour.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: "He helped us save his life by following the advice ‘float to live’.
"Paramedics checked him over and then he was able to return to his parents. Remember - float to live."
