Residents asked for views on town future

Residents in Selby concerned how the town will grow over the next 16 years are to have their say on the local house-building strategy.

Council leaders are unveiling the proposed shape of the future town up to 2026 in its core strategy, one of a number of planning documents replacing the old Local Plan.

The strategy earmarks plots of land thought suitable for new homes and businesses, and also areas where development could be banned. It also features potential sites for affordable housing and travellers.

The final round of public consultations runs until Thursday April 1. The Core Strategy sets out an overall vision for future development in the Selby district.

Planning Chairman John Mackman added: "It also looks at the provision of affordable housing and considers economic growth, rural diversification and climate change issues.

"This plan covers all the key policy areas for planning and development for the next 16 years. That's why it's vital that we ascertain the views of people living across the whole district.

"After all, these decisions affect your community, your home, your lifestyle and family and the development of local job opportunities."
