Residents fight waste station plans

residents living near to a waste transfer station are calling for plans to alter the area are rejected.

Calderdale Council has laun- ched a public consultation on a redevelopment of the waste transfer station at Eastwood near Hebden Bridge.

Residents claim a similar scheme in Halifax has made problems worse, not better. And they are urging people to reject plans to stream traffic using raised ramps and to remove the bus stop outside Victoria Terrace.

Tim Challis, resident’s spokesman, said: “The council is proposing two alternative plans: a modest plan that involves essential safety work and a scheme that would involve scrapping our bus stop and moving the waste transfer station’s exit closer to Stoodley Bridge Road. We have had numerous accidents on the road near this junction.

“It is insane that the council is considering making it even more dangerous than it already is.”

Coun Barry Collins, said the council is looking at making the site easier and safer to use while boosting the recycling levels and having a reduced impact on the site’s neighbours.
