Residents get chance to view centre plans

A TOWN'S residents are being invited to take a look at artist's impressions of a proposed new sports centre.

A series of displays are being put on to show the public how the new Huddersfield sports centre will look, both inside and out.

Kirklees Council leader Mehboob Khan said "The proposed new sports centre will offer wonderful modern, quality facilities for the people of Huddersfield as a place for keeping fit and active as well as having fun. The display brings to life the look and feel of the facilities to make it real for people.

"The proposals reflect our commitment to encourage everyone to use the facilities as, amongst others, the needs of older people, families with young children and disabled people have been taken into account by the design team.

"These proposed new facilities would be a huge boost for Huddersfield, attracting visitors into the town centre."

The display will be in the reference section of Huddersfield Library from Wednesday March 17 until Friday March 26.

The display will then move to the existing Huddersfield Sports Centre from Monday March 29 until Wednesday April 7 before moving to the Stadium Business and Leisure Complex until Friday April 16. The display will then move to other locations across Kirklees.

The artist's impressions and plans, provided by the architect, Aedas, are also available to view at www.kirklees.gov.uk/hsc with an online video of the proposed facilities.

Kirklees Council submitted its application for planning permission for the new sports centre in Huddersfield in early March. The scheme is dependent on a deal with Tesco, which wants to build a new superstore.

The application is expected to be considered in late spring.
