Residents to get preview of new £20m hospital

PEOPLE can get to look inside Beverley's new £20m hospital at a special preview next week.

Residents can see a video "fly-through" of the new building, controversially approved for a greenfield site on the outskirts of the town.

The 30-bed facility will replace the town's Westwood Hospital, providing expanded services in a "relaxed and therapeutic" environment on 10 acres of fields off Swinemoor Lane.

Work should have begun this spring but was delayed by the discovery of a single great crested newt.

The discovery meant that the trust has had to carry out detailed wildlife surveys, which are still continuing. Once they are finished the trust will have to apply for a licence to trap any creatures found.

People can see the plans and talk to members of the team behind the proposals at Temperton House, Beverley Westwood Hospital, on May 27, between noon and 7pm.

The hospital will include a 30-bed community ward, outpatient facilities, diagnostic services, including X-ray and ultrasound, minor injuries services, out of hours facilities, therapy services and a base for the neighbourhood care team.

The hospital's opening will signal the closure of the remaining beds at Alfred Bean Hospital and Hornsea Cottage Hospital.

However both sites will still provide a range of community health services.
