Residents get ready to move into development area homes

RESIDENTS in what used to be one of the most rundown areas of Hull have had a look at their new homes –following a £12m redevelopment project in the west of the city.

Regeneration agency Gateway are completing the development of 106 new environmentally- friendly properties in St Andrew's Square, which will be ready to move into later this month.

Paul and Joan Scaum, who used to live in Cecil Street, have been allocated one of the new properties, a three-bed, three-storey building that will be rented through Places for People.

Mrs Scaum said: "We cannot wait to move in. We keep going to have a look at the progress on site and have shown all our friends and family the plans for our new house.

"We have had some great neighbours on Cecil Street and are delighted that some of them are also moving to St Andrew's Square so our little community will still be together.

"We just need to sort out now whether the space next to our bedroom will be a walk-in wardrobe or a tool cupboard."

The project is part of a wider 400m regeneration scheme in the St Andrew's and Newington wards that 2,000 new homes being built, improvements to 3,000 others, and a network of revitalised parks and green spaces, restored historic features and improved shopping areas.
