It is offering one-to-one appointments with householders to discuss the results of surveys of each property.

The scheme, which follows similar work already completed in parts of West Hull, will see the building of new front boundary walls, new fascia boards, gutters and rain water pipes, new front paving, render and brick work repairs, along with repairs to timber doors and windows.

The exterior of the front of the properties will also be redecorated as part of the project, which is free to home-owners.

The strategic director at Gateway, Pauline Davis, said: “The frontage improvement programme has been a great success in Newington and St Andrew’s and we are delighted to be improving homes in East Hull.

“The improvements aim to regain the Victorian character of the properties and bring them back to their former glory, whilst also improving the appearance of the street.”

Comments on the scheme are also invited at a public consultation event being held on Monday at St Johns Church, in Rosmead Street, from 2pm to 7pm.

Ms Davis said: “This event gives residents the chance to come along and see examples of the work that will be carried out, talk to the team and sign up to the scheme if they wish.”

The programme will be delivered by NPS Humber Ltd on behalf of Gateway and is expected to get under way in July.

The second phase of work in Woodcock Street in the west of the city is getting under way following a 2.1m grant from the Government’s Kickstart fund.

All the new homes in St Andrew’s Square, Woodcock Street, benefit from a range of environmentally friendly features.

The 12m development comprises 106 new properties – the first new homes to be built in the area in more than 20 years.

The work is part of an ambitious 25m city-wide improvement programme to the front of 2,000 Victorian and Edwardian homes being led by Gateway.
