Residents win fight against turbine

RESIDENTS have won their fight against a 20m wind turbine being built on farmland close to their homes.

Councillors on the eastern area planning sub committee yesterday refused the application to build the turbine on agricultural land at Ganstead Grange – just over 100m from the nearest property.

Bilton Parish Council had said the turbine's position would have a "severe detrimental impact upon the open landscape which has been enjoyed uninterrupted for many years by the residents of Ganstead Lane East."

A petition with 26 signatures and letters from eight addresses on Ganstead Lane were also sent to planners at East Riding Council, complaining about its impact.

The applicant's agent had argued that the turbine was similar to ones installed at South Holderness Technology College and Skeffling Village Hall and said its development protected against future residential development.

However officers recommended refusal saying although small in scale it was considered that its "size, siting and design would have a detrimental impact on the visual character and appearance of the area."
