Resort chases away the blues ahead of top Elvis festival

Facing the music, Yorkshire Coast shoppers have chased away the post-Christmas blues as a seaside town warmed up for an Elvis extravaganza.

The stage is set for Presley fever in Bridlington, with an Elvis Weekender Festival taking place at the Spa between March 11 and 13.

On Saturday, visitors to the Promenades Shopping Centre did not have to wait to be all shook up as the Classic Pop Singers ran through some of the King's biggest hits to promote the event.

They will be starting on the hour between 11am and 3pm on Sunday, January 16 and 30, Sunday, February 13 and Sunday, March 6 and 20.

Among the areas on show will be the Royal Hall, which was originally built in 1926 but had to be rebuilt in 1932 following extensive fire damage.

The tours will also take in the Spa Theatre, which was built in 1896.

It too was destroyed by a fire – but the current Edwardian building dates from 1907.

But as well as history, visitors can also look around the new north wing of the building, which was built during the 20m refurbishment.
