Resort could take action on gull blight

There have been calls to tackle the issue of seagulls by seaside traders and now a task group will meet on Tuesday at the Town Hall, Scarborough, to debate the problem and look at what can be done to tackle issues including damage to property, litter and mess and the blockage of gas flues linked to herring gulls and kittiwakes.

A report prepared for the meeting says both species are a conservation concern. The public can also record views on the issue at www.scarborough.gov.uk/consultation until February 17.

Coun Godfrey Allanson, Chair of Scarborough Council’s overview and scrutiny task group said: “We know the problems associated with herring gulls and kittiwakes are very topical with many local residents and businesses. We are therefore very keen to gather information from those people about the problems they encounter with the two different species.”
