Prashad, a family run Indian vegetarian restaurant, is taking part in the competition and is due to appear on the programme today.

The restaurant – based in Bradford, a city which has just become the new holder of the title Curry Capital of Britain 2011 - will be represented on the latest TV venture by 29-year-old head chef Minal Patel.

She will be preparing aloo dum byriani, cooked in an authentic Indian family style.

Best Dish: The Chefs is presented by Mary Nightingale and will see professional chefs go head-to-head in a series of keenly contested cooking duels. Regional winners will go through to a grand final.

Minal’s husband Bobby Patel, 39, operations director at Prashad, said: “It’s a great experience.

“She wanted to do a dish that looted our past. It is a mixed vegetable dish cooked in traditional old school ways,” he added.
