Restaurant on bridal path to extension

A POPULAR East Riding wedding venue could more than double in size.

Planners are backing proposals to add an extra 49 bedrooms to Lazaats Restaurant, near Cottingham, despite objections from a parish council and several residents about the height of the extension and its "urban" design.

The 1.3-hectare site is occupied by a restaurant and a 13-bedroomed hotel with conference facilities. The operators are aiming to be the first four-star hotel in the East Riding.

The application, which goes before planners this Thursday, is identical to one passed three years ago and which has now lapsed. There are plans for hotels on the Flemingate and Lord Roberts Road sites in Beverley.

But planners state: "Given the demand for high-quality hotel accommodation in the area and the lack of existing facilities it is considered there is room for two or more hotels in the area."
