Return hope for stolen memorials

POLICE who recovered a haul of stolen memorials from a Yorkshirechurchyard are giving relatives a chance to get them back.

A surgery is being held at St James Church in Sutton near Hull tomorrow where people can try to identify 70 plaques which were taken from the Garden of Rest nearly two weeks ago.

Five of the victims had only just replaced memorials stolen in a previous raid in August when 40 others were taken. One woman lost her father's memorial in the first incident and her husband's in the second.

Sgt Mark Peasgood from East NPT said: "I would urge anyone who feels that they may have been affected by the theft of a plaque to either attend the drop-in at St James Church or call Humberside Police."

Three men, 32, 47 and 56, have been arrested on suspicion of theft and released on bail.
