Revealed: Earnings of quango bosses

Ministers today publish salary details of high-earners working for quangos as part of a drive to make government as "transparent as possible".

It is the first time details of everyone working in non-departmental public bodies earning more than 150,000 has been published in one place and includes some information that has never been made public before.

Among the names are Sir Bob Kerslake, former chief executive of Sheffield City Council, who now heads the Homes and Communities Agency on 220,000-225,000, and NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson, who earns 255,000-260,000.

The name, job title, grade, employer and annual pay rate is in addition to the list detailing the highest earning senior civil servants, which was published last month.

The new list brings the total number of senior civil servants in central government departments and senior staff in non departmental public bodies who earn more than 150,000 to 328. Details were withheld for 24 individuals.
