The offender made off with the coins, which were contained in sealed money bags, in a white carrier bag with the word “TOP” printed on it in bold letters.

He is described as white, slim and about 5ft 9in, and was wearing white trainers, dark denim jeans and a dark sports coat with a lighter coloured hood.

Investigating officer DC Jackie Breese said: “This robbery took place in the town centre at a time when many people would have been on their way home, so there is every chance that someone may have seen this individual.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who may be aware of someone attempting to exchange a large quantity of coins.”

Pictures of the suspect can be viewed on the Nottinghamshire Police website at www.nottinghamshire.police.uk, in the “Caught on Camera” section.
