Reward raised to £50,000 in hunt for killer

Police are hoping to tempt people sheltering the murderer of a teenage boy with a £50,000 reward for information on the second anniversary of his death.

Louis Brathwaite, 16, was shot inside a William Hill betting shop on Mauldeth Road West in Manchester on January 29, 2008.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to the gunshot wound to the abdomen but died 12 days later on February 10.

So far, detectives have struggled to put the final pieces of the jigsaw together and now hope an increased financial reward will bear fruit.

An initial reward of 20,000 did not work but police are hoping an increase of 30,000 will lure witnesses forward.

Detective Inspector Dave Cooney, from Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team, said: "Louis was a young lad who would now be 18 with his whole life ahead of him. He was brutally murdered and, tragically, will never get to experience the things many of us take for granted."

And he added: "I want those who have, up until know, been shielding the offender to think about what they could do with 50,000."

Anyone who has information can call the incident room on 0161 856 2446 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
