RL six in clear over rape claim

Six Rugby League players arrested following a rape allegation were told by police that they face no further action.

The unnamed Huddersfield Giants players were questioned in January after a night out in Newcastle upon Tyne.

They were arrested after a 22-year-old woman claimed she was attacked in a Gosforth hotel in the early hours of January 19.

The players, who were attending the Super League club's pre-season training camp, were re-bailed while police inquiries took place.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said today: "Following a police investigation, all six men now face no further action."

They were due to answer bail on June 11, but that was no longer necessary.
