RNLI offers chance to buy into history

STAFF at an East Yorkshire lifeboat station are inviting supporters to "buy a year" of its history as part of a fundraising campaign inspired by its 200th anniversary.

The RNLI, which has saved hundreds of lives since the Humber lifeboat station was established by Hull Trinity House at Spurn Point in 1810, has set up dedicated pages on its website, www.rnli.org.uk/humber200, where people can select the year they want for a minimum donation of 25.

The names of all those who buy a year will be included on a commemorative display at the lifeboat station.

Each will receive a certificate recording the events of that year signed by current Superintendent Coxswain Dave Steenvoorden.

Some of the most notable years in the station's history will be reserved for auction at events throughout the year.
