Road chaos as power fails

power failure caused chaos for commuters and football fans alike.

Motorists trying to access the M621 motorway and Leeds United’s Elland Road football ground were last night caught in heavy tailbacks after a power cut wiped out traffic lights at Armley gyratory in Leeds.

The lights failed around 4.30pm – the beginning of the evening’s rush hour – and remained out until after the 7.45pm kick off in the Leeds-Southampton Capital One Cup fourth round clash.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman described the delays as “considerable” and warned all drivers to avoid the area.
