Road upgrade to improve M180 safety

STEEL is being replaced by concrete along a four-mile stretch of motorway to reduce the risk of vehicles in accidents crossing from one carriageway to another.

The work to improve the central reservation barrier on the M180 west of Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire gets underway tomorrow night.

The steel barrier between junctions two and three will be replaced with safer concrete in the £1.5m project.

Concrete barriers are considered more robust and unlikely to require repairs after being hit by a vehicle.

The work should be completed by Monday, February 17 and will involve lane closures and occasional full overnight carriageway closures.

A 50mph speed limit will be in place.

Project manager Steven Wright, said: “Concrete barriers reduce the risk of vehicles involved in accidents crossing from one side of the motorway to the other and improve the safety of road users and road workers.”
