Roadworks misery for motorists extended

ROADWORKS which have been causing frustration for motorists for months on one of Doncaster’s busiest routes are set to begin again in May, it was announced yesterday.

Earlier this month, Doncaster Council said that misery for drivers could be over because its project to resurface the A630 Balby Road, fill in a subway and put in new footpaths, lighting and traffic lights had been completed.

However, energy company National Grid said yesterday that work on replacing the old metal gas mains will begin on Monday, May 9 and run until at least December.

They said the roadworks will result in “significant delays” due to lane closures.

Construction operations engineer Craig Silcock said: “We will be working as quickly as we can to complete this essential work, with engineers working extended hours. We can assure road users that we will do all we can to keep traffic moving.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask people to bear with us while we complete this essential work.

“This investment will ensure that local people continue to have a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.”

Lanes will also be closed in both directions between Greenfield Lane and Carr Hill from Tuesday, August 23 to Monday, October 17 and, from Tuesday, October 28 to Monday, December 12 lanes will be closed in both directions between Carr Hill and Roberts Road.

Over the next year National Grid will also be replacing 18km of old gas mains in residential streets in Balby and Warmsworth.
