Roadworks motorists face long diversions

MAJOR roadworks are set to begin at one of Doncaster's main motorway junctions next week, causing possible delays and lengthy diversions for motorists.

The month-long roadworks will involve replacing the worn-out surface of the A630 in Warmsworth, at the junction with the A1M, and will entail a long stretch of the road being closed on Monday to Thursday nights from 7pm to 6am.

Doncaster Council's director of neighbourhoods and communities Jane Miller said: "We will do our utmost to make sure disruptions to road users and inconvenience to residents are kept to a minimum."

The first phase of the roadworks, to begin on Monday, September 27,

will result in the A630 being closed to traffic heading out of Doncaster, from the junction with the A60 Sandford Road. At the same time, both the northbound exit slip road of the A1M and the southbound entry slip road will be closed.

A seven-and-a-half mile long diversion will be put in place for motorists using the A630, sending traffic south on the A60 to Wadworth, before accessing the A630 again via Carr Lane and Clifton Hill, near Conisbrough.

Traffic wanting to use the A1M will be diverted to junction 37 at Scawsby, while vehicles on the motorway wanting to access Doncaster town centre will be diverted to Junction 3 of the M18 and White Rose Way.

During the second phase of the works, the A630 will be closed overnight between its junction with Edlington Lane and its junction with Wallace Road.

The right turn ban into Edlington Lane will be suspended, with vehicles being diverted via Edlington Lane, Cockhill Lane, Long Gate, Church Road and the A60.

The southbound exit slip road and the northbound entry slip road at Junction 36 of the A1M will also be closed.
