Roadworks set to cause more delays for drivers

MOTORISTS who have endured years of roadworks on one of the main routes into a town in South Yorkshire have been told to expect more congestion as a new phase of construction begins.

The A630 Balby Road Improvement Scheme between Larchfield Road and Greenfield Lane in Doncaster is to start on Monday, July 2 and council officers said it would take “about 20 weeks”.

The works will include new surfacing, footpaths and central reserves junction improvements, and “bus priority measures” at busy junctions and real time information at bus stops.

Peter Dale, Doncaster Council’s director of regeneration and environment, said: “Once again we ask road users to show patience during the final phase of works.

“They will see real benefits in terms of reduced journey times and improved road safety once the scheme is finished.”

The scheme has been funded with £943,000 of European money as part of a project which aims to improve roads in South Yorkshire to boost economic growth.

Over the last four years, Balby Road users have suffered gas main replacement works, a long-running rail bridge replacement project and changes at the busy A60 junction.
