Roadworks under way at roundabout

Roadworks began yesterday at one of Sheffield's busiest roundabouts.

The works on the Moore Street roundabout, which links the inner ring road with Ecclesall Road, are scheduled to last for two weeks and will involve lane closures both during the evenings and on Sunday daytimes.

Improvements will include widening the road on Hanover Way, approaching the roundabout, to create three full lanes.

Coun Ian Auckland, Sheffield Council's cabinet member for business and transport, said: "Small improvements to capacity at the junction of the roundabout should see useful improvements for motorists.

We've made sure that the construction work takes place outside of peak hours to minimise any disruption. The work should be finished in two weeks and further improvements to the roundabout junction at Charter Row will take place after Christmas."

The existing roundabout has limited capacity because approach lanes on Hanover Way and Charter Row are too narrow, causing larger vehicles to regularly block two lanes.
