Roadworkschaos forcity drivers

MOTORISTS travelling in Leeds city centre faced major delays yesterday as several sets of roadworks caused tailbacks on different routes.

Roadworks on the Armley gyratory caused severe queues on the A58 westbound and there were lengthy delays in Kirkstall Road as preliminary works for the Leeds Trolleybus scheme continued.

Electrical repairs at the junction of Wellington Street with the A58 inner ring road added to the congestion.

Problems in the area worsened last night as traffic arrived for Leeds United’s game with Cardiff at Elland Road, further adding to the hold-ups.

The Highways Agency also reported slow moving traffic on the M621 westbound near Leeds between junctions three and seven yesterday afternoon. It warned there were delays of 40 minutes owing to heavy traffic.

There are currently speed restrictions on the M621 as work to repair the existing steel central reserve safety barrier with a concrete barrier is carried out.

It is due to be completed by the end of March next year.
