A SECURITY guard was robbed as he delivered cash to the HSBC bank in the Market Place in Dewsbury.

The guard was inside the two centre bank when a man approached him from behind and made a grab for a bag of money as it was being removed from a cashbox.

The incident happened at around 2.15pm on Thursday, West Yorkshire Police said.

The robber and two other male accomplices thought to be with him drove off at speed from Bond Street in a silver-coloured car, believed to have been a VW Passat, before making a U-turn on Dewsbury Ring Road in front of the railway station.

At this point the silver car collided with a red car, causing minor damage before making off.

A VW Passat was later found abandoned in the Meadow Lane area of Dewsbury. It had been stolen from the Tudor Croft area of Huddersfield on December 30.
