Robbie all set to hit the right notes at fundraising concert

CHARITY bosses are hoping a nine-year-old who is the youngest clarinetist in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain will be the star of a fundraising show this month.

Robbie Jansen, of Ecclesall, Sheffield has been invited to perform at an “evening of entertainment”, alongside a host of other local performers by Safe@Last which works with runaway youngsters.

Robbie began playing the clarinet three years ago and according to his teachers, his tireless work ethic has led to him making spectacular progress with the instrument.

Nigel Gyte who is head of music at Rudston School, Rotherham, where Robbie is a pupil will duet with him on the piano in the Safe@Last show, to be held at Rotherham Civic Theatre on February 10.

They will perform three of their favourite pieces together.

Robbie said he would love to be a musician when he grows up.

“It is a lot of work and there are always days when I don’t feel like practising, but most of the time I love it,” he said.

The Safe@Last show will feature local actors, singers, musicians and dancers performing everything from West End shownumbers and comedy routines to classical music pieces and belly dancing.
