Rock stars to show off skills in Minster stroll

THE work of stonemasons undertaking a multi-million pound restoration of York Minster is due to be showcased to a wider audience.

Staff at the cathedral are launching a bid to attract more visitors to the York Minster Stoneyard to see the skills of the masons at first hand.

A marketing campaign will highlight existing tours of the stoneyard and the chance to travel up the Minster’s East Front, which is undergoing the massive restoration.

A spokeswoman for the Minster said: “We have international craftspeople in the stoneyard, which has become a centre of excellence known around the world.

“We want to raise awareness of the work they do to as many people as possible.”

The restoration work is backed by the and is part of York Minster Revealed, a five-year project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund which will continue until 2016. Future stages will include a interactive interpre tation of the iconic building and improved access.
