Royal reply for boy who gave letter to Queen

A YORKSHIRE schoolboy who was moved to tears when he was hauled over a barrier during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee visit to Leeds to give her a letter has received a royal reply.

Little Junior Frood was overjoyed when the Duke of Edinburgh asked protection officers to help the eight-year-old across Briggate to give the Queen his flowers and a letter he had written the night before her visit on July 19.

And he could not believe his eyes when an equally special reply arrived at his Leeds home in answer to his warm message.

His mother Kerry Frood, 30, said: “We weren’t expecting it all. He was absolutely over the moon and was in tears again when he saw the letter.”

When Kerry told the Duke of Edinburgh that Junior had brought flowers for the Queen, he was the first of a small group of people plucked from thousands who were helped across to hand-deliver their greetings.

The letter written by the Carr Manor Primary pupil, from Meanwood, had said: “Thank you for looking after me and our country. You are amazing people.”

His mother said: “Most kids have pictures of the Leeds Rhinos on their bedroom wall, but Junior has pictures of the Queen.

“He’s been so excited since he got to meet her.

“They’ve put him in all the newsletters at school too and it’s been really special for him.”

The letter from HRH says: “I send you my grateful thanks for the words of loyalty and support which you so kindly sent on the occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary of my Accession to the Throne.”
