Royal stamp of approval for hunter class

The Princess Royal watched the final judging for the Champion Novice Hunter and presented the winner and reserve with their awards in the main ring.

The championship went to Mr and Mrs Alan Hall's novice heavyweight hunter, Major Moylaw, ridden by Lorraine Homer and produced by the Tatlow team in Warwickshire. They will be eligible to compete in the new Top of the North Supreme Ridden Championship which will be held on the final afternoon of the show.

Reserve went to Mr and Mrs Andrew Bowie's Potters Ace from the lightweight class. The Potters travelled from Kinross to watch their horse which was ridden and produced by Alistair Hood, originally from the village of Foxholes in East Yorkshire, who is based in Norfolk.

Ros Maxwell from Brandesburton was delighted to have had a second place in the novice heavyweight class with her home bred, seven-year-old gelding, Darcy IV.

The horse has also qualified for the Royal International but Mrs Maxwell was pleased to have done well at the Great Yorkshire Show. "I'm so excited to be in this ring," she said.
